Buchmessen-Schwerpunkt 2005: KOREA

Unsere koreanischen Autoren Hwang Chi-Woo, Kim Chi-Ha sowie Park Ynhui werden auf der Buchmesse in Frankfurt (19.-23.10.05) anwesend sein.

"MEINE LIEBE, MEIN VATERLAND."

Paros 1:40.000
Anavasi: Athen.
gefaltet, mit GPS-Gitternetz, reißfest, wasserfest.
ISBN 960-8195-36-5

The Cycladic group of islands is one of Greece's primary tourist attractions, typically invoking images of white-washed houses and brightly painted fishing boats against a backdrop of endless blue sea. However, each of these fragments of the old Aegaeis has its identity, its often neglected hinterland, its own history. It is these differences that Anavasi maps invite you to discover, whether by road or the old network of footpaths, which on many islands are still well preserved.

Anavasi: Athen 2003.
gefaltet, mit GPS-Gitternetz, reißfest, wasserfest.
ISBN 960-8195-36-5

At the entrance to the region of the map, and at one of the most important crossings of the Pindus range that served to connect Thessaly and Ipiros, stands the village of Pili. Leaving this axis and heading north one eventually reaches the meadows of Pertouli surrounded by mountains. To the north rise the peaks of Neraidha followed by Trigia and to the south and Loupata, Marosa and Avgo while to the east this mountainous region merges with Koziaka, an elongated limestone mass that falls sharply towards the Thessalian plain.

This map depicts practically all the mountainous regions of the prefecture of Grevena up to Metsovo, including the well-known valley of Valia Kalda beneath the peaks of the Ligos range. This is a region with a very dense and quite complicated network of earth roads and a fair number of waymarked hiking routes.

Anavasi: Athen 2002.
gefaltet, mit GPS-Gitternetz, reißfest, wasserfest.
ISBN 960-8195-23-3

Zagori is renowned for its traditional villages and stone monuments. It is mountains, however, that dominate this landscape and every facet of local life. On the imposing mass of Mt Timfi mountaineering routes were carved out long ago, while the crossing of the Vikos Gorge remains a favourite. Over the last few years the old cobblestone roads between the villages have also been restored to use.

Sifnos 1:25.000 Touren- und Wanderkarte
Anavasi: Athen 2002.
ISBN 960-8195-24-1

Exploration of Sifnos through its foothpaths and old roads is the only way to get to know the more inaccessible aspects of the island. Chiefly, however, it is a wonderful opportunity to delve into the amalgamation of natural and cultural features that make it a typically Cycladic island.
Two decades after the spread of the asphalt road network, the old web of communications on Sifnos remains dense and fairly well preserved. Some of the old routes between villages have been asphalted, however, many more branches remain untouched. At the same time most of the paths leading to the "monasteries" (where annual fairs are held in honour of the patron saint). Remote coves and bays are still only accessible on foot and on all these routes one will meet locals and foreigners alike.
Sifnos, like most Cycladic islands, is suitable for hiking in all seasons of the year, even in August, when the Meltemi winds offer considerable relief from the heat. Sturdy boots and a large water bottle are necessary.
The foothpaths on the map are divided into five categories. This division does not distinguish between the former significance of the paths, but is rather a reflection of their present state.

Along route you will often come across small wooden gates or wire fencing barring the way. These obstacles are only there to prevent herds from straying. Feel free to continue on your way but do remember to shut the gate behind you.

Apart from the foothpaths presented in this map (recorded in May of 2002 with GPS), there are a few dozen more which have not yet been recorded (some of these are shown at their start). Research continues and any contribution or comment is welcome.
